To drive in China, you must have a valid Chinese license. For foreigners who posses a license, the process is relatively simple and outlined below:

• Valid Z, J or Diplomatic visa
• Undergo a brief eye exam at an approved public hospital.
• Translate the license into Chinese
• Pass a multiple-choice test on the rules of the road. The test can be taken in English, French, German, Spanish, Korean or Japanese.

Foreigners with a valid license do not need to take a road test.
